Cataract

Cataract is an eye condition in which there is clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. In cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is removed and an artificial lens is fitted in its place. Eye specialists at Drishti Eye Care Centre in Mulund have undergone specialized training in cataract and are highly experienced in performing cataract surgeries (called phacoemulsification).

At Drishti Eye Care Centre in Mulund, the below variety of national and imported intra ocular lenses (IOLs) are available. We will help you choose a lens based on the examination of your eye and your vision requirements:

  • Monofocal lenses: These are most common standard lenses used. They help focus on either near or far distance. If you choose a les for distance vision correction, you can use reading glasses in addition when required.
  • Multifocal lenses: These lenses are set to different powers and allow you to focus on near as well as distant vision, thus eliminating or reducing the need for glasses altogether.
  • Aspheric lenses: These lenses are specially suited for those with cylinder powers. They come with markings which help your cataract surgeon adjust the orientation of the lens to ensure best vision correction results.
  • Toric lenses: These lenses are made to match the curvature of your natural lens. These help in sharper vision especially for those who intend to drive at night.

Technology

Drishti Eye Care believes in keeping up with the latest advancements in technology. This means that our machines are designed to detect cataract at the earliest, select which lens power is best suited for your eye and the best technology for preforming cataract surgery. The below technology is available at Drishti Eye Care Center for the best results after Cataract Surgery:

Biometer from Haag Streit, USA:: This optical biometer provides precise laser optic measurements for every section of the eye from the cornea (outer transparent layer) to the retina (curtain at the back of the eye). Though it is the lens that is involved in cataract, your vision is affected by many other factors too. This device ensures that each and every unique aspect of your eye is taken into consideration before planning your cataract surgery like the length of your eye, depth of front chamber of eye, diameter of your pupil (black of your eye), thickness of cornea etc. This device is the first that can also measure the thickness of your crystalline lens. Special measurements are also possible for patients with cylinder power (for toric lenses).

Centurion Phaco Machine from Alcon, USA: This machine offers a top of the line technology in the field of Cataract Surgery. Drishti Eye Care Center is proud to be one of the first few eye hospitals in Mumbai to have this machine. This machine has a new monitoring technology to maintain the eye pressure during surgery. This reduces the chances of complications. This machine also has an advanced vacuum aspiration system that helps in breaking down the cloudy lens quickly and smoothly. With its advanced electronics and fluidics system the Centurion Phaco System makes cataract surgery very safe and predictable.
